If you are told a hotel has no more rooms available, ask if they have a room that is out of service. A room that is out of service usually has walls that aren't painted or other minor issues such as carpet stains.

If you take your children along with you when you travel, make sure they have their identification. Give your kids a little money so they can use a payphone if they get lost. Parents need to have a recent picture of their child or children, and they should write the child's height and weight on the reverse side of the photo.

Leave any valuable items you don't need at home when traveling. With a lot of different activities in unfamiliar surroundings, losing things is very common on vacation. Even worse, you could be the victim of a theft.

Try to rotate drivers often when traveling. By driving until you're too tired, the next driver will not have anyone to talk to during the trip as you sleep. Don't drive until the point of exhaustion.
