Despite being a small island of Mexico located in the Caribbean Sea, Cozumel is widely known as an amazing tourist spot. The island holds a wide variety of birds along with other animals, both endemic inhabitants and migratory avian visitors, a number of which are decreasing. Among the rarest endemic birds is the Cozumel Thrasher which is determined to be nearly extinct. This bird belongs to the mockingbird family. It has brown and white with a long, curved bill which is said to make a complex, scratchy warbling. After the Hurricane Gilberto hit the island last September 1988, there was a rapid decline of the species' population. These birds are a few of the biggest of their kind, and frequently mate to other breeds which results to hybrids.

It's reasonable to understand why the majority of newcomers who move to South Florida come from the northern states, but many move to Florida to take advantage of the tax benefits (no state income tax and relatively low sales tax); low housing prices and $50,000 homestead tax exemptions, good schools, educational and business opportunities, excellent healthcare facilities, and wonderful active retirement and family communities. And that brings us to the main reason many people move to Florida - retirement. It may be a tough decision for some. Deciding to retire to South Florida means you'll have to give up snow and ice, heavy winter clothing, snow tires, windshield ice scrapers, icy sidewalks, snow shovels, home heating oil deliveries and other costly inconveniences of winter. It means giving up freezing weather, dangerous driving conditions, unplowed streets and parking lots, salt corrosion and of course, slush! You'll never ruin your shoes in Florida slush.
Besides the great weather, the main interests of most new residents are comfortable living, activities and interesting attractions. Florida communities are unique in this respect with many located close to the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. There you can enjoy boating, scuba diving, world-class fishing, water skiing, snorkeling, windsailing, relaxing on the white sandy beaches and so much more. And no matter where you live there is always golf and tennis. Shopping at outlet centers, visiting animal habitats, sightseeing, museums, art galleries, and other cultural venues and enjoying the many state and national parks that dot the landscape can make any day an adventure. If you feel the urge to explore, you can easily visit the Florida Keys, the nearby Bahamas, and all of the Caribbean. There are many flights and plenty of cruise ships to take you there.
Other major attractions are The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, Boynton Beach's Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands, and the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Of course, you'll want to go to the beach and Delray's was voted one of the top public beaches in the southeastern United States for swimming and one of the top 35 beaches in the entire country overall by Travel Holiday magazine. Or go across Alligator Alley to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Naples, Marco Island and the Paradise Coast.
Active adult retirement communities also provide their residents with the opportunity to stay active all year by offering clubhouse activities, classes in art, dance, music, arts & crafts, photography and more. Being able to enjoy social activities and events without having to travel outside the community is greatly appreciated. Daytime activities, such as card games, lectures, classes and other social events at the clubhouse is a wonderful way to interact with others. Evening dances, movies, and entertainment shows always give you something to look forward to. And clubhouses with fitness centers offer you the opportunity to remain fit and healthy. South Florida is an oasis. If you look at Florida from space you will see that South Florida cities and towns hug the coastline while the land between Naples and Fort Lauderdale is mainly Everglades wilderness and swamp. The interior is an interesting place to see wildlife but you wouldn't want to live there. In sharp contrast, the coastal towns are in great demand. Great residential areas chant the same mantra as real estate brokers: Location. Location. Location. And why are these areas so popular? Wonderful climate, beautiful beaches, recreational opportunities, tax benefits, entertainment, less stress, outdoor fun for the whole family, great golf, superb colleges, excellent healthcare, fresh air, no hills to drive or climb up, and you don't have to shovel heat!

Egyptian Cuisine? Health and Tastiness at Its Finest

Today, it is easy to go to Egypt, which was once an expensive destination. You are now able to find websites online that offer the cheapest <a href="http://family-vacation.hpage.com/">family holidays to Egypt 2013</a>; every Tom, Dick and Harry can now experience a fun get-away in the land of the sand and Pharaohs. I am a budget traveller myself.
When travelling to other countries, I always try to maximize the experience of my stay. That means, I don't imprison myself in the hotel where I'm staying or limit myself in what is recommended by guidebooks. I go out of the way, explore hidden nooks and crannies, and ask locals on which places to visit or activities to experience. Trying out local cuisine is something that I never forget to do when I travel. The history and culture of a nation can practically be tasted and experienced in each morsel of their local cuisine. So, during my last trip to Egypt, a whole new world of knowledge and understanding of Egyptian society opened up to me as I chowed down on their delicious dishes.
Egyptian cuisine is usually made up of vegetables and legumes gathered from the nation's nutrient-rich and fertile lands near the Nile Delta and the Nile Valley. Top-quality tubers, root crops, grains and vegetables are largely generated in these areas. Obviously, most traditional Egyptian dishes are vegetarian. At the coastal regions that face the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, fish is added to these vegetarian dishes. Egyptian cuisine rarely make use of meat like pork, beef, or chicken. Prices of these meats are what makes them less employable in Egyptian cuisine. This is exactly the reason why Egyptian dishes revolve mostly on vegetables.
Staple food for the Egyptians are bread. The whole region's culinary survival and culture is dependent on it. It is so vital that the government actually offers subsidized bread. To prove a point, let's go back to a huge food crisis in Egypt in 2008. People waiting in line for their bread subsidy became longer and longer everyday. Patience were as short as the lines are long, resulting to flared tempers and eventually fights. Police had to be called to prevent and stop the rioting.
Virtually every Egyptian meal is accompanied by bread. The most frequent local bread is Eish Masri, a thick, glutinous pita bread. Furthermore, it is typically used as an edible utensil; people use the bread to scoop up sauces, pick up kebabs, or wrap up fillings.
The heavy use of spices, particularly garlic and onion, is widespread in Egyptian cuisine. For example, crushed garlic is blended with other herbs as part of the ingredients in spicy tomato sauces. It could be included in the fillings in baked eggplant. Fried onions are added in as garnishing to Koshari or traditional pea soup.
Oh, about the Koshari. I tasted one, and it was delightful! I think I'm in agreement with a lot of people here that koshari should be considered as Egypt's signature dish. Koshari is an entree (but sometimes, it is a main dish in itself) that is made with a mix of macaroni, rice, chickpeas, and lentils. The whole dish is then topped with fried onion and tomato sauce. Garlic juices may also be added. Koshari can be found everywhere, from classy restaurants to ordinary roadside stalls.
