For some reason, the state of Connecticut does not always make the list of places that people want to vacation too or even spend time in. But these people are greatly mistaken if they believe that there is nothing to do in Connecticut.
Broadway
There is no end to the amount of television, movie and musical references we could say to remind you just how famous and important Broadway is in New York City life and culture. But more importantly, as my father once said, "You can't NOT go see a musical on Broadway when you're in New York." Tickets are available online, at the location, or in a raffle in front of each musical's individual theater. Depending on the time of year and the musical you are trying to see, raffles can be an easy way to win tickets at a highly discounted rate.
Central Park
Second is Boston. Boston is famous for more than just its tea party. Home to the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and several other major league level sports that have not only done well in their respective leagues, but have excelled. Christmas and New Year's Eve is such an amazing time of year and it is the most anticipated time of year for me. New Year's Eve for me in the past few years has been a time for relaxing and enjoying the night in my favourite bar in my home town with family or friends. However, last New Year's Eve my friend Lucy and I went to South America for Christmas and New Year's Eve. If you are thinking of going to South America for New Year's Eve then I will be able to tell you all about it in this travel review. If you're undecided about which country to go to, don't be, because Brazil and Rio De Janeiro are where it is at for New Year's Eve in South America. A New Year's Eve in Rio De Janeiro is truly one of the best ways to experience New Year's Eve.
Let me tell you, Rio de Janeiro is amazing for heaps of celebrations all year round, including in February/March when the Rio Carnival is on. But hey, New Year's Eve is absolutely massive and Copacabana Beach really is the place to be for a New Year's Eve in Rio. At Copacabana people gather and celebrate together by drinking, samba dancing and watching the midnight fireworks. The midnight New Year's Eve firework display in Copacabana Beach is really special, because they use amazing very colorful fireworks that last a long time in the night sky and really light up the beach.
There are hotels to stay at the beach, and one of which is the Copacabana Palace Hotel. Although the hotel is very luxurious, it is still worth a stay. The place gives you an overlooking view around the area. It also has New Year's Eve parties, but the Hotel party entrance fee is around $1100 USD. If you are looking for an affordable hotel to stay at the beach, you may want to try the Mama Ruisa Hotel, an older, but also beautiful, and affordable place to stay.
Oh, and the best thing about being in South America for New Year's Eve is the weather. If you're like me and like your weather warm then this is the place to be. It is so annoying that during this time of year, the weather in northern hemisphere countries is cold and most of the places are full of snow. That's why so many people want to spend their New Year's Eve in warm tropical locations, like Rio de Janeiro. The weather was so hot during the time we were there, and I loved that we could swim at the beach all day and night. Rio de Janeiro is possibly the best warm weather location to stay during New Year's Eve.
I know we wasted a lot of time hanging out at the beach, but our trip wasn't just all about swimming at the beach all the time as there was plenty of other things to do in Rio De Janeiro. We decided to do a mountain hike up Sugar Loaf Mountain and this was such an awesome trip. If you want to do some hiking then definitely head to Sugar Loaf Mountain. Also after we did some hiking we took a train ride up Corcovado mountain one day to see the Christ the Redeemer statue. This was so worth it, as you get a great view of the whole city up there.
But one thing is for sure, I can highly recommend to everyone to check out Rio De Janeiro for your next New Year's Eve vacation.

So what are you going to do for this New Year's Eve? Are you going to do the standard and hang out with family or friends? Or will you opt to travel to some place you have never been?. A wicked New Year's Eve celebration that I just love is heading to Edinburgh for the annual Hogmanay festival, which is just a completely unique experience. There are so many great things about Hogmanay, the people, the food and the party itself are just brilliant. The word Hogmanay is actually "last day of the year" in Scottish and Edinburgh is easily one of the best places to welcome in the New Year. Personally I think it is not only the best in the UK but also across the globe.
So what is the origin of Hogmanay celebrations? Historians believe that the Hogmanay celebrations are deep-rooted from the Vikings who treated the eve of the New Year with special interest. There are plenty of theories to explain the origin of the word "Hogmanay". The most notable ones reckon that the word is either Flemish, Scandinavian, or even Anglo-Saxon in origin.
So Im hearing you say, have you actually been to this Hogmanay Festival in Edinburgh to celebrate New Year's Eve or are you just big noting? Well guys I am hear to tell you that I can confidently say it is the best festival I have ever been to, anywhere in the world, period. It has everything happening there, the fireworks in the night skies, the dancing all over the streets and the music blearing make the atmosphere in Edinburgh for Hogmanay simply scintillating. Hey there was also heaps of people in the main Edinburgh Centre close to midnight. I heard there was something like 250,000 partygoers from across the globe there. It was just amazing. My English friend, Mike, and I had the biggest nights of our lives on New Year's Eve at Hogmanay.
Edinburgh does not only offer the beauty of welcoming a new year but also has some astonishing hotels. If you are travelling to Hogmanay there are plenty of accommodation options, but it is probably your best bet to book early. Having booked our hotel early and staying for four days, Mike and I got a great deal at the 5 Star Sheraton Grand Hotel located near to the Edinburgh Centre and the famous Edinburgh Castle. The accommodation at the Sheraton Grand Hotel was fantastic. The services were good and the staff were really friendly. This made us felt like we were at home.
When you book and go make sure you try some traditional Scottish foods whilst you're at Hogmanay. The cold night means that the food should be served hot and even though it isn't for everyone, you should give Haggis a try. Ok, I will admit that it isn't for me but maybe just give it a go for yourself and see what you think. If you like sweets make sure you get some shortbread, as I had plenty of shortbread and it was the best I have ever had. There was plenty of different drinks on offer at Hogmanay, but of course Scotch whisky is the drink of Scotland. Scotch is not only enjoyed in Scotland but across the world. I actually think Scotch is my new favourite spirit! I just love really good Scotch now once I have had the taste of the good stuff.
If you aren't the type to book stuff yourself well there seemed like plenty of tour groups doing tours to Edinburgh for Hogmanay. If you're looking at travelling with a whole group of people then you should check out some of these companies that organise Hogmanay tours. Travelling as a group can be the best experience ever if that is you're thing.
There was plenty of things happening at Hogmanay, but there is nothing like singing Auld Lang Syne at midnight in the country where the song originated. It really was a wicked experience.

After Lincoln comes the Korean War Memorial, and then on to the Potomac Tidal Basin's south bank for a stop at the Jefferson Memorial. Famed as one of the best architectural specimens in the nation, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial was built based on ancient inspiration from the Pantheon in Rome and from the third President's own home in Virginia. The stunning 19-foot statue of Jefferson, the columns and the dome above are all a must-see spectacle for DC visitors.
After Jefferson comes FDR, whose memorial is rather more touristy than the rest. Each of President Roosevelt's four "rooms" has a different kind of waterfall. From the Great Depression to the Second World War, the waterfalls are symbolic of the different challenges FDR faced in his four terms.
Next up is the Iowa Jima Memorial, followed by the King Memorial which comes under the area earmarked for the National Mall, making it a twofer. Another notable point about this particular attraction is its address. It's on 1964 Independence Avenue, which is the same year that the Civil Rights bill finally became the law of the land and Dr. King's dream was fulfilled.
The final stop on the tour is the White House, still closed to visitors at nighttime but surely worth a good look anyway. Night tours of Washington D. C. So the winter is up and now the summer is so on. Since you will be wearing your best swimsuits, it is important that you make yourself presentable. And that means that you must hit the gym months before you go on a vacation. Seriously, nobody would want to talk to you with your flabs and your fats. No offense intended though but it is a fact.
If you already have decided where you will be taking a break, you may need to book as immediately as you could. As a matter of fact that rate months before your actual vacation is cheaper. Perfect solution especially when you are on a tight budget.

The Tudor Place is nationwide consequential landmark that was built by Martha Washington's grand-daughter Martha Custis Peter and her partner Thomas Peter. This historical home of the Peter family who observed the country change in the Civil War was opened up to the public in 1988 under the stewardship of the Tudor Place Foundation.

Whether travelers are an architectural enthusiast or simply enjoy serious historic structures, visitors won't want to miss the many superb beautiful bridges in Washington D.C.. Featuring engaging tales that tell the history of the country, Washington D.C. Bridges tell a tale all their own.
Arlington Memorial Bridge
Often thought to be one of the most pretty bridges in Washington D.C, the Arlington Memorial Bridge is filled with symbolism. Connecting the Northern area with the South, this bridge crosses over the Potomac River, linking the Lincoln Memorial to Columbia Island. Rich in art and detail, the Arlington Memorial Bridge is known also for famous sculptures such as The Arts of War, which were created by Leo Friedlander. Along the pylons on each pier, visitors can also view the work of sculptor Carl Paul Jennewein, which are massive circulars discs completed with eagles and faces.
Francis Scott Key Bridge
Erected in 1923, the Francis Scott Key Bridge was built by the Army Corps of Engineers. This bridge provides straightforward commuting between Virginia, Washington D.C. and Arlington County. The FSK is the oldest bridge that crosses over the Potomac River. Designers Max Tyler and Nathan Wyeth exploited a classical revival arch design when creating the plans for this bridge.
John Philip Sousa Bridge
Named after John Philip Sousa, the famous composer of many patriotic American marches, the John Philip Sousa Bridge carries Pennsylvania Avenue over the Anacostia River. The John Philip Sousa bridge was opened in 1940 employing the same masonry piers that were utilised for the previous bridge that stood in its place.
Chain Bridge
Carrying virtually 22,000 autos a day the Chain Bridge crosses over the Potomac River in Little Falls area of Washington, D.C. This girder designed bridge was made in 1939 from steel. The Chain Bridge marks the site where the Union Armed forces gained their access to the countryside encampments around Fairfax County. The bridge features a large crossbeam structure which seems just like a pergola or long garden arbor. The existing bridge is the second structure to stand in place as the original Chain Bridge was originally opened in 1793. Chain linked trusses were added in 1810 to the original bridge structure, giving the structure its preferred name. All together there's been a grand total of eight different version of this bridge in the location on which it now sits.
14th Street Bridge
Composed of 5 bridges that all cross over the Potomac River, the 14th Street Bridge connects Arlington, VA with Washington, D.C. This structure carries many different names composed from , Arland D. Williams Jr. Memorial Bridge, Charles R. Fenwick Bridge, the Long Bridge, Rochambeau Bridge and the George Mason Memorial Bridge. Of all the Washington D.C. Bridges, the Chain Bridge carries the most tragic tales. This bridge is the site where the Air Florida Flight 90 airplane crash took place on January 13, 1982. Today repairs continue to be done on this bridge to fix damage caused in that crisis.
