Koh Samui Is The Classic Tropical Island Paradise

Koh Samui is the third biggest island in Thailand. It is located on the Gulf on Thailand some 800km south of Bangkok, and 80km east of Thailand southern coast. It is an incredibly popular destination for visitors to Thailand and there is plenty of excellent accommodation options on the main beaches.

Koh Samui is a very popular island paradise with white powdery sand and palm fringed beaches. The island has something for everyone, from independent travelers to families on vacation. There are some commercial beaches on the island, as well as quiet beaches that are much more relaxed.

The most popular and busiest beach on the island is Chaweng Beach. It is seven kilometers long and has white powder sand. It is perfect for swimming, sun-bathing and water sports during the day, and if you like to let your hair down there are plenty of bars and nightclubs on the main street just up from the beach. There are also many excellent restaurants that serves spicy Thai cuisine and food from all over the world. There is plenty of accommodation on the beach from backpacker orientated bungalows to expensive resorts. It is even possible to rent a villa on the beach.

Quieter beaches on Koh Samui include, Bang Rak (Big Buddha Beach), Mae Nam Bophut and Choeng Mon. All these beaches have excellent accommodation available to suit all budgets. These beaches are far more laid back than the main beaches and perfect for families on vacation.

It is also possible to rent a small motorcycle at the island's main beaches for a bot 100 to 200 baht a day. This way you can explore the entire island and see some the islands beautiful temples.

One temple that is a must see is Wat Phraya, which is also called the Big Buddha Temple. This stunning temple is a classic Thai Buddhist wat and contains a 15 meter high statue of the Buddha. Another fantastic temple is Wat Khunaram that contains a mummified monk!

The island of Koh Samui has something for everyone, whatever their budget. Backpackers love the island and many stay for a long time and live the beach hippy lifestyle. The islands is also very family friendly and it is even possible to rent an entire villa on the island.
