Pike Fishing Basics

by Casper Vivianodeni

If fishing has been your hobby for quite some time, you may have already come across the two well-known types of fishing - coarse and pike fishing.

Coarse fishing is a term used in the fishing UK and Ireland for angling for coarse fish, which are those types of freshwater fish other than game fish such as trout and salmon. The strategy and tactics of fishing applied in this type scan be found in the UK and Europe since this kind of fishing originated there in the early 19th century.

Coarse fishing comes in various types. Number one is pleasure angling which, as the name implies, is just directed towards fishing as a relaxing activity. Match angling is another type characterized by anglers coming together at an area to get as many fish as possible in a particular period of time. Specimen hunting is another which is directed towards selecting a chosen species of fish to catch, weighing it and taking a photo with it, The primary point is to get either a carp, pike, zander, barbel club, and others.

Then the other type of popular fishing is pike angling. It has become a hobby in the UK and Europe. This type of fishing is engrossed on getting pike or Holarctic fish which can be found all around the globe in the freshwater habitats of most northern and arctic regions. Successful ways to get these hard-to-catch fish would involve the use of dead baits, lure fishing and jerk baiting. They are seen as game fish because they are known to be fighters and have been food fish since ancient times.

A lof of fishermen's angling tackle has a live bait to catch a pike and these baits come in so many shapes and sizes. When selecting bait, it is also a good idea to research where you'll be fishing. In general, the larger the lake, the larger the pike's prey fish; the larger the pike's prey fish, the larger the pike. This basically means that if you have a bigger lake to fish on, you'd be needing a bigger bait, too.

Coarse and pike fishing are two types of fishing that you should try. For more about angling tackle, follow this link.
