Great Adventure in Alaska Vacations

by Terry Brennar

Alaska is one of the most incredible places you will ever visit. This is because Alaska has Northern lights, stunning scenery, amazing animals and a wide variety of things you can see and do. Alaska is also home to a number of very large national parks, and one of the places where can go to have a great Alaska adventure experience is the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The park is very extensive and covers over 2 million acres. Going on a hike to the trails in this place always leaves visitors staring at the amazing sights. The park was launched in 1941 and at first it was known as the Kenai Moose Range. This park was made a national park in 1980 and this is a great place to launch your Alaska adventure travel.

Adventure Tours At Kenai

One of the major things that are notable in Kenai National Park is the Harding Ice Field. This covers a large area of more than eight hundred square miles and is one of the wonders of Alaska. This is where you will find one of the remaining spots to see glacial ice that has been there for over ten thousand years. Those who go to visit the park are also able to reach Skilak Lake which is about 4 miles across and fifteen miles long. This lake has a beautiful island on its centre known as Frying Pan Island. This lake which is five hundred and twenty-eight feet deep also consists of very clear water that it seems bottomless.

Fishing & Wildlife on Your Alaska Adventure Tours

A large number of fishermen and women normally tour this area every year with an aim of casting their luck into the Kenai River that passes through the park. Some of the fish species that are in plenty in this river are chino, coho and pink salmon. If you walk around the park, it is easy to come across moose, black bears, brown bears, and sheep. There are also various bird species that are rare and interesting which fly in the skies and live in Kenai. A guest in this park is also likely to see a bald eagle as well as several other rare, endangered and protected species in the area.

Other Alaska Adventure Tours Activities

If you are a fun seeking person, you will be very occupied in Alaska and the things you can do are as much as you want to. There are numerous outdoor activities that you can carry out to explore this amazing park in Alaska. Most visitors of the park use a canoe or kayak to enjoy and explore the lakes and rivers of this northernmost U.S. state. In case you want to be more adventurous, you can go down an eighty-two mile trek on the Kenai River and once you come out to the shores, you can fish for your dinner and perhaps catch a King Salmon. These fish are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and this can help you renew your energy for the adventure of the next day. The fish which is believed to be the largest in Kenai River is King Salmon and it weighs a huge ninety-seven pounds, 4 ounces.

More Things you can do

A rare sea-going mammal is sometimes seen swimming up the Kenai and this is the white Beluga Whale. See one of these animals feeding and you'd think you were in a fairy tale!
