The Necessity Of Big Game Fishing Tackle

Men and women who love to fish the oceans are aware that they must invest in big game fishing tackle. There are special poles and reels that they utilize as well. Fish from the ocean can grow to amazing sizes. The average rod and reel is likely to simply snap in two.

First of all, the average reel is not adequate. They must have durable spinning reels spun with high-tension line designed for larger game. There are some freshwater anglers who utilize these same tools when trying to catch massive fish from bodies of water in South America or the North American Great Lakes.

The rods are also quite different. Rods used for ocean angling are longer, thicker, and much better able to stand up to a long fight on the water. Many of these rods fit into a special harness so that the rod is not yanked from the fisherman and lost in the sea.

The weights and bobbers used for these monsters of the deep are large as well. The average BB-sized line weight and ping-pong ball sized bobber used by lake and river fishermen would not even be visible on the surface of the ocean. The weight used is the size of a fist, and the bobber looks like a child could use it as a pool float toy.

Lures used for ocean angling are very similar, but are quite a bit larger than that used in lakes, streams, and rivers. They are colorful and have metal plates that attract the fish to the lure, much like lake gear. However, the hooks used in ocean angling are dangerously large and must be handled with care.

Of course, some of these same items are used to catch freshwater fish. There are some real monsters in large lakes and deep rivers, especially in Asia and South America. Catfish and sturgeon can grow to be eight to ten feet long, and can weigh hundreds of pounds. As such, the same gear that an ocean fisherman uses would be necessary to catch some of these freshwater beauties. One must take care when it comes to catching endangered fish, however.

So whether one is planning a Great Lakes trip, or an expedition into the Pacific ocean, anglers will need to invest in big game fishing tackle. Many boating expeditions include the gear, as not all tourists want to invest that much money just for a day. It is also possible to rent this equipment in some locations so that people can fish off of bridges, rocks, or right off the beach.
