Relax In The Great Outdoors With The Help Of These Tips

Relax In The Great Outdoors With The Help Of These Tips

by Dorsey T. Emanus

The current economic climate is making it hard for the majority of families to justify spending a large amount of money on a family vacation. As a result, more and more families are now opting to go camping for their holidays. In this article, we are going to present to you a few tips that will help you to plan the ultimate camping adventure.

It is important to have a flashlight when you camp, but make sure the batteries are fully charged. One way to be sure the batteries don't accidentally drain on the journey is to put them into the flashlight backwards. That way if the switch is accidentally engaged, they stay charged. Plus, you know where the batteries are.

Take along a box with essential supplies when you go camping. Include things like stick matches, a flashlight, cooking tools and hand cleaner. Prepare in advance. Think about all the things you might need days before you leave on your trip, especially if you will be far from any store.

If you are going camping with your pets or children, you need to take a few extra precautions. Try to teach your kids the basics of camping safety. They need to know what to do if they get lost and should each have a small survival kit. Make sure you have leashes for any pets and make sure they are current with all vaccinations.

At night, create "bear bags". Tie a rope around the bags with your food and your trash. Then, find a tree and toss bags over a branch , raising until they are at least seven or eight feet off the ground. Tie the rope around the tree so it is secure. This way, bears and other animals will not be able to get into your food and trash during the night.

Avoid any wildlife you may come into contact with. Bears have become a fairly large problem with campers. In some parks they have been known to rip open the trunk of a car to gain access to food. Raccoons are also a big problem in many campgrounds. Not only are they smart and can gain access to your food supplies easily, but they can carry disease as well.

When camping, an insulated air mattress is useful for more than just comfort. An insulated mattress with a waterproof bottom can also keep you dry and warm in inclement weather. If the bottom of your tent is wet or cold, then you can still sleep comfortably above the elements. Many good air mattresses come with loops that enable you to tie multiple units together for cozy sleep quarters for two.

When packing your coolers, use block ice for your food cooler and crushed ice for the cooler that contains your drinks. Blocks of ice will take much longer to melt, keeping your perishable items within a safe temperature for longer. Crushed ice will melt more quickly, but you can easily ice a drink in a cup or create an ice pack with it if needed.

Pack an emergency repair kit for your tent. You can get them at any camping supply shop. These kits will make it easy for you to repair rips, broken poles and failing zippers. The last thing you want while camping is to have your tent fail and not have the tools and supplies to fix it.

This guide can help a camper of any level find new ways to prepare for their camping trip. Use it as you plan your next excursion and you are sure to have the time of your life! Plan, prepare and enjoy your very next camping trip this coming camping season.
