In The Fashion Of 1950S Jewelry

The 1950s was a time when people were still recovering from the economic aftermath of the Second World War. During this time, the style and fashion had changed in the world and brought new designs which produced an image of glamour and charm. The 1950s jewelry was influenced by creative and elaborate designs that complimented the women wearing it. Designers came up with new ideas for their designs which included big bold pieces that drew much attention when wearing it.

Gemstones and diamonds were among the materials which were applied to pieces of jewelry. Stones like rhinestone were admired in various colours of red, blue, yellow and green. These gemstones were part of ear and neck pieces which were in either gold or silver. The Aurora Borealis gained prominence during this era due to its change in colour and created a great fashion item.

Earrings dangling from a woman's ears were considered an attractive item of beauty. These earring were available in many different sizes and shapes and came with diamonds and other stones to add an alluring look when wearing a neck piece.

One piece of jewelry which made a great fashion statement was the choker necklace which was wrapped around the throat and was usually big. These necklaces were usually made with beads or diamonds in various floral patterns and could also add a pendant in the middle. Such necklaces gave a bold and exotic image accentuating the neck and were often worn with small earrings to compliment it.

Long necklaces also made a trend and were worn in long chains. Brooches and jacket pins were also very sought after items and were used as accessories put on coats and hats. They also added an extra touch to a scarf or a purse. The brooches and pins were made in gold or silver embedded with a cluster of beads or a precious gemstone and at times also came as images of animals or flowers. Earrings worn with clips were considered very modern before the use of pierced earrings became popular and normally set with a precious stone.

Women during that time also enjoyed emphasizing their arms by wearing bracelets. Bangles which appeared in big sizes added a great appeal and went great with a dress. Another item was the charm bracelet which was very popular for adding different types of charms to it and was made in silver or gold.

Themes of nature and animals inspired many of the designs in this time. Birds, beetles and flowers made beautiful pieces in brooches and pins. Images like ballerina dancers and fruit created a glamorous appeal. Geometrical patterns set with diamonds gave a sophisticated impression. Cocktail jewelry was a prominent trend among people attending cocktail parties. Rings with big gemstones looked very attractive around a woman's finger.
