Transport to Lands End Airport

Transport to Lands End Airport

by Jimbo Cornwall

Since the helicopter services from Penzance to The Scilly Isles has closed down , far more passengers are trying to get to Land's End Airport.

The most common method that passengers get to Land's End Airport is to drive. Follow the instructions to the airport until you get to Crows An Wra near Sennen. Then go right and follow the road north until you see the sign on your left . There is an outdoor car park which is charged at 7 per day unless you book it in advance and 6 per day if you do. There are no discounts for staying longer than a day . Due to the high rates , there seems to be a few locals prepared to rent space around the area to park a car. A quick Google search ought to reduce this cost .

Another way to park your car is to use the entirely free car park in St Just . A taxi from St Just to there is about fifteen pound so for longer stays on the Scillies this may be advisable .

Buses run a service from the bus station in Penzance to the Airport. The airport is in a predominantly rural region so the buses run a rural service but some go past there and stop outside . First Group and Western Greyhound run a service from Penzance, Sennen Cove and St Ives but are dramatically reduced in the winter . It is recommended to find out before you travel and leave plenty of time in case of postponements or cancellations.

The questionable "shuttle bus" runs from Penzance taxi rank five days a week and is replaced by private hire cars and taxis when it is not running. There is no set schedule or info at Penzance taxi rank about delays with the service so people have been known to wait a long time for it. The best thing to do is to contact passenger services and store the number in your cell phone for when you arrive and telephone them to get up to date info.

The advised way is to use a Lands End Airport taxi company . A web search brings up a few firms that run to and from there. If you need a taxi when you land on the return to this Airport then enquire about it when you book the first ride. There is no website or app for taxi drivers who pick up here to keep them up to date with the arrival times and any delays, so it typically means some waiting . For this reason it is a lot more difficult to get a taxi from the Airport than it is to get a taxi to the Airport, so always ask about your return journey when you arrange the taxi to Land's End Airport. Additionally inform them the time you have to check in by and not when you want picking up.
