Create a packing list for your trip! You can start your list anytime before you travel. By having a detailed list of what you need, you will take the stress out of packing. Even last minute packing won't be as stressful, when you have a list to reference. It will also take the panic out of forgetting anything.

Be sure your passports are current and not expiring soon. You may find that different countries have different rules and regulations regarding your passport. Depending on the expiration date of your passport, a country may not let you visit. This can be from 3-6 months of your trip, though there are some places where that time frame can be 8-12 months.

For the best exchange rate, it is usually a good idea to exchange currencies when you reach your destination. If you will not have access to a place for currency exchange immediately when you land, exchange a small amount of money before you depart on your trip and wait until currency exchange becomes available in your destination to exchange the rest.

Staying awake until about 8pm in local time will help you to adjust better in the new time zone. Though you may be exhausted, succumbing to sleep earlier than you should may end up making your jet lag worse because you have not allowed your body to recalibrate. Do your best to adjust to the new time as quickly as you can, so your jet lag will fade and you can enjoy your vacation.

Ask for a room located on a higher floor. Rooms on lower floors, particularly the ground floor, are at greater risk of theft due to easier access. If you can, request a room that doesn't have doors that slide open. It's easier to gain unwanted access to these types of rooms.

Find reviews online of any hotels or resorts that you are interested in, so that you are aware of issues prior to planning your trip. By looking for feedback from people who have used the same business, you can avoid booking a stay somewhere that is likely to leave you unhappy.

Plan ahead if you want to travel by air. Major airports are in big cities much of the time, so getting through traffic and to your gate on time can be a challenge. Pack your bags the night before you leave on your trip. Prepare ahead so that you are not rushed when you need to get to your flight. You do not want to miss your flight.

Force yourself to stay awake at least until early evening in order to acclimate better after you change time zones. If you go to sleep too soon, it can make jet lag worse by keeping your body accustomed to your old time zone. Focus on your adjustment to local time, and you will decrease your jet lag quickly.
