Natural Wonders Of Belize

by Linda Patterson

Located in Central America, on the Caribbean coastline, Belize is bordered on the east by the Caribbean Sea, on the north by Mexico and on the south by Guatemala.

You can never go wrong going on a Belize tour as you will experience an exciting and relaxing vacation. There are many people that are attracted to this country because it's packed with many natural, beautiful as well as magnificent attractions. What makes this place so blessed are its friendly and welcoming people, amazing Mayan ruins, rich tropical forests, pristine waters, coral atolls and barrier reefs.

Ancient Mayan Ruins

Belize is where the earliest Mayan civilizations flourished therefore the Mayan culture is a huge part of the heritage of this country. About one to two million ancient Mayas lived in this country during the peak of their civilization. Although this civilization is extinct yet the strong presence of the Mayan influence remains because of the existence of the ancient ruins.

The ruins in this place show the architectural skills of the ancient people and that amazes every visitor that looks at them. Every visitor that have seen the breathtaking temple pyramids are not only amazed with that they have seen but they feel great respect for this ancient people. The Mayas are gone however their contributions to the world remained and continue to remind us that there was once a civilization that thrived in this country that has left a legacy that continues to influence the modern world.

Caracol, Altun Ha, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, Lubaantun, Lamanai, Nim Li Punit and Cerros are the most visited Mayan sites in this region. Tikal is in fact regarded by many people as a Mayan site of Belize since it is more reachable from Belize than from Guatemala proper.

Marine Wonderland Of Water Lovers

The water of the Caribbean Sea is crystal clear and azure, making it a real marine wonderland. The barrier reef of Belize extends for nearly 185 miles and it is deemed to be the second largest barrier reef on earth. It's a marine wonderland because it holds about 200 isolated cays, over 400 tropical fish species, 70 coral varieties, coral atolls, mangroves as well as paradise-like beaches.

The diver's paradise known as the Blue Hole is found here which makes this place a must-see for every diving enthusiast. This natural hole is thought to be a cave whose roof might have collapsed many years back. As time passed by, the cave has been formed into a virtually perfect hole which provides the most extraordinary view of suspended stalagmites and stalactites.

There are plenty of water activities that can be enjoyed here such as snorkeling, kite surfing, kayaking, and water skiing, sailing or simply swimming.
