Everything Key Lime

Everything Key Lime

by Kermit Carpenter

Kudos to Stephen and Steve! It turned out to be a hectic weekend for the Kermit's "All Things Key Lime" after taking part in three unique events. Right before their Shoppe in Key West Kermit's Shoppe felt great to sponsor Scott Free Racing and ended up third in the 2012 world championship in spite of some hiccups experienced!

Next, it was off to Disappearing Island in Ponce Inlet, FL for "Paddle Out Poverty" SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) and kayak races benefiting Entrust , an organization that mentors and trains entrepreneurs in developing countries as they break the cycle of poverty. Kermit's products were featured on the burgers and brats at the barbecue enjoyed by the many attendees and participants, and we're certain that the winner of the Kermit's Basket in the silent auction will be very pleased with their delicious reward! It is rumared that Entrust is already planning another paddling event in April... stay tuned!

There was an interesting contest on November 10, a weekend when the yearly Kermit's Key Lime Pie Eating competition at Volusia County Fair and Youth Expo proved to be a stupendous success for the contestants and the visitors. What would the contest be? The one who manages to eat the pie first without using the hands, wins!

More than 20 years ago, when he was Papa's bookkeeper Kermit Carpenter started to sell smoothies before a restaurant in key West. One day the master chef being absent Kermit was left alone to look out for a new adventure. So long he had been racking his brains along with his sister Anita and her husband John to offer a high quality gourmet food and that was the reason for the advent of Kermit's Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe.

The City of Key West had beautiful plan for the region. Kermit, Anita and John did subscribe to the thought that if they could pull off for some more time, the site would be in great demand. When the Shoppe was inaugurated in a corner of Elizabeth and Greene, the price was found suitable, but what kept them worried was that it was opposite a sewage pumping station. But the bright part was that it was close to Key West waterfront area.

Kermit and Anita drove to Maryland to visit their parents. The drive was long, so they took the opportunity to think of a list of things that would contain Key Lime. This list would prove useful when expanding Kermit's Key Lime product line.

Rewind to 2003, and Kermit's was bursting at the seams. John came onboard as Managing Director after his military career, and due to the economies of shipping to his growing internet customer base and lower manufacturing costs the DeLand production facility and showroom were born. The DeLand location contains a Shoppe, warehouse and production kitchen in 10,000 square feet of space. Best of all, in DeLand they have a superb group of folks who make the business run. For the past couple of years, Kermit has been able to invest in a small core of truly wonderful people. They are now the mainstay of Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe. From the DeLand location, Kermit not only supports his own shoppes, but also ship the website orders and support his wholesale customers.

In 2011 Kermit got a chance to stake his claim on Duval street , which paved way for more Key West visitors to relish the goodness of Kermit's delicious Key Lime. As there are 2 spots in Key West you can never miss the opportunity of relishing a slice of key lime pie on a stick, dipped in Belgian chocolate!
