Delighting In Holiday Getaway Time From Squaw Valley

Delighting In Holiday Getaway Time From Squaw Valley

by Salley Belote

Our family was looking for something different when we were planning a winter vacation. We wanted as much outdoor snow fun as possible. That's what drew us to Squaw Valley. Now that we've actually been, we can tell you what a joy the trip had been.

There are so many things to do on the mountain that someone in California heads up. And of course you want to start with the skiing right? This is the main draw, and it's exactly why you're going. Well for starters you're going to find Olympic quality courses.

After that I was ready for the real thing, and they have some beautiful courses. Including some really wide open ones where you can enjoy the mountains around you. But also some racing runs too, for skiers that love speed.

Of course there's also the Olympic courses. Most of them totally untouched from the time that the Olympics were held in Squaw Valley. It's cool to actually get to do a run down a championship quality course.

But you can only ski for so much of the time that you're on vacation, right? Sometimes you need a bit of a break, and that's where the Snoventures come in. These are Squaw Valley's other attractions, and my family really loved them.

What kids don't like dogs? Ours are the same, and we had so much fun at the dog sledding area. They had tons of dogs, and you can even go on sled rides with the family too!

I also particularly enjoyed the snowmobiles. These were really fun to race around, and give you a beautiful way to explore Lake Tahoe on your own schedule. Squaw Valley and Alpine ski resort have tons of snowmobile tracks out there too.

Finally, you have to try the snow tubing. Everybody likes riding down a big hill in a tube, and this is one of the best places in the world to do that. Our favorite family activity by far, and the one thing we can't wait to do again next time we visit Squaw Valley.
