Make The Most Of Your Off Road Experience With ATV Lift Kits

by Madeline Finch

Most who drive an all terrain vehicle do so in search of a more thrilling adventure off the beaten path. While they do not necessarily seek out extreme rough areas, they do want to be able to travel on unkempt pathways to more remote areas. While they are made for off road experiences, ATV lift kits ensure a more hassle free experience.

The idea of the off-road adventure is to get out there where one can experience nature in as unperturbed a state as possible. By definition, this means there are few, if any, options for assistance should anything go wrong. When traveling long distances in real wilderness areas, this can be a serious concern.

Driving is rife with opportunities to fail, even on smooth roads, but in the backwoods on must be prepared. Mountain bikes are made strong to withstand more punishment, as are all terrain vehicles. But there are always things one ought consider to give an even greater advantage or precaution to the savvy rider.

Raising the underside of the vehicle seems an obvious way to solve this difficulty, but it begs the question how. A simple and preferred method is to outfit the vehicle with larger, more rugged tires, the larger diameter resulting in effectively moving the frame higher above the terrain. Unfortunately, there is not much room to enlarger tires before they begin to rub against the frame.

Creating space by raising the body above the chassis is the simplest method, and with the proper parts and some know how can be done fairly quickly. Adding spacers in the right places allows the use of bigger, more rugged wheels and gets the bottom of the car farther from the mud. Unfortunately the amount of space this can gain is limited to only a couple of inches.

The suspension type is more complicated, as it raises the frame and the chassis. In both methods there is room for bigger wheels, but raising the suspension allows for a greater increase. In each case there is also a risk involved with the modification, as the design of the original vehicle is what allowed it to pass through all the safety and other checks to make it a legal vehicle for sale to consumers.

For either effort, however, there are consequences in the operation of the vehicle. Performance characteristics are based on the original design and even for experienced drivers the feel will be different, though nothing they should not be able to overcome. The challenge comes with inexperienced drivers and high angle environments, when the potential for rolling is heightened.

Riding in rough terrain is physically challenging and can be as big a rush as riding an amusement ride, hence the attraction to its many enthusiasts. Keeping the vehicle in good operating condition is a combination of planning, care and maintenance, and preparing for the type of topography one expects to experience. Getting as much clearance underneath is a good way to prevent debilitating damage, and that is primarily accomplished through ATV lift kits.
