Thinking about booking a holiday to Spain? Whether you're planning a break on the mainland, or one of the islands such as Mallorca, this fascinating country has a musical background that's sure to move you.

Wherever you end up holidaying throughout the Balearics, one thing's for sure, and that's that you'll hear plenty of authentic Spanish music. Instruments indicative of this traditional genre include the bagpipes and tabor pipes, however, Jota, a form of Spanish music which incorporates dance is mainly associated with the areas of Asturias, Galicia and Murcia.

However, if it's today's tunes that interest you more, there are plenty of clubbing hubs to choose from in Ibiza, Tenerife and Barcelona. Home of house music, Ibiza is a popular pocket of the Balearics to let loose on the dance floor. The genre was invented by British DJs in Amnesia nightclub in the '80s and has been all the rage ever since. The distinct sound also paved the way for Acid House, which has become increasingly popular both on this Spanish island and throughout the world.

Ibiza is the place for house music, which happens to be the home of this specific style of music. Along with world famous dance DJs such as David Guetta and Fatboy Slim who head for the island to play in the big clubs, music fills the air in Ibiza each summer. But the 'White Isle' is no longer exclusively a mecca for dance music; you'll also find famous pop and rock artists and bands performing at the infamous Ibiza Rocks nights, also to be found in Mallorca.

If clubbing's not your thing about you want more than a bit of background music with your meal, there are several high profile musicians that hail from the country. From the likes of Enrique Iglesias to other big names, like the Brits, the Spanish enjoy a bustling festival atmosphere from rock music to jazz with a wide variety on offer throughout the year and allover the country. Check out the schedules before you go to avoid disappointment and plan your musical holiday accordingly.
