How To Enjoy A New Zealand Vacation

How To Enjoy A New Zealand Vacation

by Kerri Turner

Though New Zealand may be small, there is so much to do in this country that it would be difficult to have a boring time whilst here. A New Zealand vacation offers a lot to see and do, no matter what activities a visitor enjoys. From the outdoor and adventurous types to the visitor looking for relaxation, this is a country that can provide exactly what is needed.

For visitors who enjoy adventure and the outdoors, the country has much to offer, both on land and in the water. There are many hiking trails that allow tourists to see the beauty of the landscapes and wilderness, allowing for the opportunity to explore and discover the environment. Hiking can be done in organized groups or privately, so it's also a great way to meet up with like-minded individuals.

Te Araroa is the name given to a group of walking tracks that connect to form one of the world's longest trails. It is also a truly spectacular experience in terms of the beauty of the land. Te Araroa makes it possible to walk the length of the country. It is three thousand kilometers long and offers a variety of scenery as the trail progresses, from sand on the country's coast to volcanoes and farmland, as well as some of the country's national parks.

Speaking of volcanoes, visitors to the island can enjoy firsthand the bubbling mud-filled spa pools and geysers that the country has to offer. It is possible to visit active volcanic sites, such as White Island. It is amazing to witness steam escaping from cracks in the ground and pavements in central North Island, but for those thrill-seeking tourists, tours are available to go to right to the edge of a steaming volcanic crater.

For those visitors who prefer a more cultural experience, the country's biggest art institution is a must-see. The Auckland Art Gallery is home to over fifteen thousand works of art, with eight hundred of these on display at any given time. Te Papa in Wellington is another great place to see both art and culture, as it contains the most artefacts of traditional Maori culture in the world.

The country also has a rich and thriving film, music and theater industry. In fact, it was the set of blockbuster films like "Lord of the Rings" and the soon-to-be-released "The Hobbit", as well as the record-breaking movie "Avatar". Visitors can enjoy live music at local establishments, or see the Symphony Orchestra perform. For a truly cultural experience, a kapa haka is a Maori performance that is sure to leave an impression.

Not everything on a New Zealand vacation should be full of adventure. Relaxation and romance are absolutely possible as well. Couples can visit one of the luxury lodges for a taste of Pacific Rim cooking, or enjoy wine-tasting in a beautiful setting. Whale watching is also a way to do something romantic with a little bit of adventure.
