Car Camping Food That Doesn't Need To Be Refrigerated

Car Camping Food That Doesn't Need To Be Refrigerated

Grilling a fancy meal while camping can be a great deal of fun, plus it can be tasty. Nevertheless, occasionally we are restricted by time, cash or cargo area. That is where low-cost and simple camping meals are helpful.

You do not always need to give up a warm, cooked meal to low-cost food that is easy to prepare. With a portable gas burner, you can still have your hot coffee at daybreak, cook warm morning meals, make fragrant stews and lots more.

A portable gas burner can cost you under $20 plus a mini propane tank will cost a couple of dollars. Besides being less expensive than a barbecue, stove or grill - this cooking method uses up virtual no space in your vehicle. They are also optimal for backpacking journeys.

Presuming that you don't want to bring food that you need to keep in a cooler, below are some ideas for camping meals that are simple, cheap and healthy.

Noodles

Get yourself a big stew pot, and you can heat water for all sorts of pasta. Pasta is cheap, takes up virtually no cargo area and does not need to be stored in a cooler. Add a container of pasta sauce, and you have a warm, filling meal. Leftovers also make a terrific, easy lunch.

Chili

Get a few cans of chili and heat them in your pot. Many products already have seasonings included, so this means less work on your part without having to give up taste. Once again, no refrigeration required, and obviously canned food keeps for a long period of time. You might even add your chili to your pasta dish above.

Oatmeal

There is absolutely nothing like a warm meal at daybreak when you are camping, and oatmeal costs virtually nothing and uses up very little storage area. You can use the exact same pot you used for the pasta and the chili and toss in some oats for a couple of minutes with some cinnamon or maple syrup. For a heartier meal, you might even add some trail mix or dried fruit, which are excellent treats to bring on a camping journey anyway.

Rice

Although it takes longer to cook than pasta, rice is a nice option, since it is compact, low-cost and it does not have to be cooled in its dry form. Rice goes well with any sort of meat, fish or veggie, however, I even like it plain with some pizza seasoning.

Tuna in a Can

Canned tuna is a low-cost, simple and a fast source of healthy protein. Add it to rice, sandwiches, tortilla chips or eat it by itself from the can. Little serving containers are also a nice advantage.

Potatoes

This vegetable might use up more space, but it is simple to carry, does not require refrigeration and is an inexpensive healthy carbohydrate. You might choose baked potatoes or those cooked in a frying pan vs boiled potatoes, but no matter what type of food preparation devices you have, know that you have meal options.

Peanut Butter

Don't forget peanut butter. It is quick and easy and a great source of protein too. If you are looking for an alternative to sandwich bread, why not try whole wheat crackers or rice cakes?

There are plenty more food choices to make easy camping meals, but these staples are very flexible and help you produce lots of different dishes simply by switching up your spices or sauce.
