Historic Buildings in San Francisco to Visit

by John Feyd

San Francisco is famous for as a location for many distinguished sites, plenty of which are recognizable around the globe due to the characteristic architecture of the historical buildings in San Francisco. Alongside being home to one of, if not the most iconic bridge in the US, the city is quite as much defined by the historically significant buildings in San Francisco that have lasted through quakes and all other forms of shake-ups to personality of San Fran.

The Golden Gate Bridge

This bridge is by a large margin the most well liked historic attraction in San Francisco. Not only is it a gorgeous site, but it has historical significance as well. By going for a walk across this bridge, you can see a great deal of the town and the formidable bay. Whether you are driving or walking driving or walking, you will be surprised by the pretty structure and overall elegance of the architecture. The project to build this bridge began in 1933, but could not be finished till 1937.

Filbert Steps

If you feel like a good workout, then you must definitely visit the Filbert Steps. There are more than 600 stairs, which go up the side of Sansome Street. It is not the flight of stairs that are engaging, because they are crumbled and not attractive in some parts. The real beauty is in the phenomenal perspectives, which one can see on the way up. The gardens and captivating houses, which you see on the way up, are amazing. When you reach the end of the steps, one can enjoy Coit Tower.

San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park

In the Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood, patrons will find this national park. The park has a visitor center, a fleet of significant vessels,a maritime museum, a library and a research facility. The building was first opened in 1951 to the public. Travelers can see outstanding ships from the 1800s in all of the ship's glory. Tour these dazzling ships and learn all about ocean voyages and history.

Fort Point

Journey to another place and time when you visit Fort Point. Once used as a hiding space for the military, now it has been the location of many films, including "Vertigo" by Alfred Hitchcock. This area is also incorporated in the famous computer game, "Grand Theft Auto". This structure was built in 1776 and today is falling into a state of disrepair a bit. Still many people plan out days to go here and see the superb views from this area.

Alcatraz

Roughly 1.5 miles off the edge of San Francisco, travelers will find the island that holds the jail Alcatraz. Until 1969 this was a home to one of the worst prisons in the nation. Perhaps its most famed prisoner was Al Capone, but Capone surprisingly wasn't the most violent by a long way. Today, Alcatraz is recognized as one of the most haunted areas in American and therefore attracts a large amount of visitors. Tours are given daily of this consequential building, with the extra bonus of a beautiful ferry ride across the bay.

No matter what you sites you see in San Francisco travelers will leave them fascinated. This beautiful city has something for everyone, including great places to eat and many historically significant sites. The city on the Bay has for a while been home to some beautiful historic sites. Making time to visit them all will leave visitors will enough memories to last a lifetime... or at least until the next visit.
