Avid hikers have a good understanding of what type of gear they need to carry to survive for a number of days. There are several things to know when putting together a bag for taking to the woods, or to make sure you have what is needed to keep going in an emergency. A survival backpack for sale can sustain a person for about 3 days.

You can purchase a bag that has already been outfitted, add to it, or put one together yourself. Folks modify their survival bags over time to ensure that they have a good amount of supplies. It is not easy to know how to begin gathering the right supplies. However, if you think about the basic needs in any survival situation you will be off to a great start.

The prefilled packs are designed for assistance in an emergency situation. The backpacks have enough supplies for an individual to survive for seventy two hours. There are a lot of people who will plan a pack for a much longer time to support them. There is a limit however to how much a person will be able to carry. If a pack weighs too much it can hinder rather than help.

Consider packs that have what is needed to survive for 72 hours. The first and most important item packs should have is water. Water is a life sustaining necessity regardless of the situation. Water becomes a valuable item when surviving is the main focus. People need at least a liter of water a day to live so they should include a minimum of 3 liters in their backpack.

If packing for more than the 3 days it is important to have a purification system for water. The system can be a filter, iodine tablets, boiling the water. Packing a collapsible bottle gives you a way to store extra water. Coffee filters will stretch the life of the water filtering method. Bottled water may also an option.

If packing a three day pack freeze dried foods and energy bars are adequate. Freeze dried meals are prepared using boiling water. The meals will last for a long time and are quite light so they will not increase the weight of your pack. Of course if you are planning for emergency or disaster packs you need a longer term food solution.

Clothing items you include should be comparable to those you include for a backpacking journey. For 72 hours you will need long underwear, a jacket that is waterproof and warm, one long and one short sleeved shirt, two pair of socks, a pair of long pants, and a hat. Keep in mind the type of climate where you live.

A tent or tarp will keep you dry and warm when you sleep. Include a sleeping bag or bedroll. Make sure you have a first aid kit. Have a few ways to start fire, small pot for cooking, something to cut wood, two flashlights, and a knife. Also carry along some type of weapon for self defense. The weapon is your personal choice, take what you are comfortable with.
