Enjoy The Magic Of Africa With Namibia Safari Packages

Enjoy The Magic Of Africa With Namibia Safari Packages

Many people think of Africa as a place populated with lions, elephants and giraffes. This isn't strictly true but you'll certainly find these animals and many more in the Southern African wilderness. One way to live this African dream is with Namibia safari packages, which are affordable and will allow you to not only be one with nature but also to sample a unique culture with remnants of a past as a German colony.

Namibia shares its borders with South Africa, Botswana and Angola. To the west is the Atlantic Ocean. The Namibian capital is the charming Windhoek with its German colonial architecture.

Most of the country is either very dry or outright desert. It's hot here too. This is why the winter months are a much better time to visit. Aside from the heat being more bearable then, winter has the advantage that the vegetation is less dense and you'll spot those wild animals much more easily. Other sights to see include the spectacular Fish River Canyon, the desert ghost town of Kolmanskop and the charming Swakopmund with its German atmosphere.

The Namib Desert stretches all along the Namibian coast. In the south, Sossusvlei is a popular destination because of its proximity to some very high sand dunes, among them the famous Dune 45. Towards the north you'll find the area known as the Skeleton Coast with its many shipwrecks. Animals in this desolate desert include oryx, springbok, jackal, desert elephants and, along the coast, seals. Parts of the desert are off-limits because of diamond mining, though.

The Namib-Naukluft National Park is the largest in Africa. However, Etosha National Park is not far behind in terms of size. It's located in the north and is a prime wildlife-viewing destination. This is mainly because the vast Etosha Salt Pan attracts animals looking for water, especially in winter. You may spot zebra, oryx, springbok, giraffe, elephant, rhino, warthogs and lions, among others.

Damaraland has a spectacular landscape that would not look out of place on Mars. Here you'll find rock formations such as Vingerklip, a petrified forest and the San rock art of Brandberg and Twyfelfontein. The region, which is located in the central north, is the perfect place to go on community-driven elephant and rhino safaris.

In the Kunene region is Kaokoland, where the wildlife includes cheetahs. Kaokoland is also where you'll find the Himba, a people known for their intricate hairdos and their beautiful women. If you've had enough of the aridity, head to the panhandle in the northeast. This area, the Caprivi, is lush due to the two big rivers that flow here. In addition, it's a stone's throw away from Botswana's vast Okavango Delta.

It's easy to find a safari package for wildlife viewing in Namibia. You'll even find plenty of all-inclusive deals. Simply ask your travel agent or check online. Otherwise, book in Windhoek once you've arrived in this magical country.
