Planning Your St Maarten Activities For A Vacation

by Janine Hughes

St. Maarten is an island located in the Caribbean which is a popular vacation resort. Many thousands of people visit there every year to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and beautiful surroundings on the island. If you are planning a trip there, you will want to schedule plenty of st maarten activities to entertain yourself and the family.

Sightseeing is very popular because of the good year-round weather and natural beauty of the area. From the top of Cole Hill Bay, you can view the nearby islands of Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis, especially on a clear day. You can take a walking tour around the island or a boat tour if you do not want to walk very far. You can also ride in a glass bottom boat and see the coral reefs beneath your feet with all their living plants and animals.

For nature lovers, St. Maarten Park has many tropical plants and animals to enjoy. There is also a Butterfly Farm where you can watch as butterflies emerge from their chrysalis to take their first flights. You can also hike along the many beaches and dunes to enjoy nature in a quiet setting. If you love nature but prefer to experience it in a slightly more relaxing way, you can rent a Jeep and drive around the island at your leisure, or take a relaxing ferry ride to a neighboring island.

If you like water sports, there are a variety of activities you can do there to keep busy. You can go water skiing, windsurfing or jet-skiing, or try kite-surfing. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also try parasailing or skydiving at Orient Bay. Do not be afraid to try new things, even if you feel nervous at first.

If you love marine animals, you may want to check out the Dolphin Fantasies Park, where guests can see live, trained dolphins. You can also swim with them if that is something you have always wanted to do. If you love animals, but swimming is not your thing, you can try horseback riding along one of the many beaches on the island.

If you enjoy sailboat racing, you may want to visit in March when the Heineken Regatta takes place. There are numerous colorful sailboats that take part in this event. But if you prefer boats that are under the water, instead of on it, you may be interested in visiting the St. Maarten semi-submarine. The submarine is air-conditioned and allows visitors to explore underwater life beneath the waves.

There are also many places to dine in St. Maarten. Some of the most popular restaurants are the Palms Grill Restaurant, where you can dine under the stars, the Point Restaurant, which serves gourmet meals, and the Ocean Terrace Restaurant, which is famous for its buffet breakfast.

Whatever you are interested in, your travel agent should be able to help you coordinate various activities during your stay. Many agents have contacts in the tourist industry that they get information from, so they may know about deals and packages that the ordinary traveler does not, so it is a good idea to ask about these.
