Visiting Panama for cultural purposes can be both eye opening and enticing. The unique location between North and South lends itself to such a diverse population. The fascinating history behind this country has everything to do with the evolution of the culture and should be explored.

This country is situated at the southern most part of Central America. It borders Columbia, Costa Rica, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Its location makes it accessible from North America and there are various ways to travel there. Favoured are the waterways and flights, making the journey both comfortable and enjoyable.

"Volcan Baru" is a sight that many adventurers have set their hearts on climbing. This volcano has a view of both the Pacific and Carribean oceans at the summit. The going it tough and it is a hard climb to the top, definitely not for the faint hearted. When weather is bad it is recommended not to attempt the climb. Cloud cover makes visibility poor and the view hazy if at all visible. The park can be entered either on the east or the west side of the volcano.

"Sendero El Pianista" is a trial that is geared more toward the leisurely nature enthusiasts. It is a wandering trail that starts in dairy lands before ascending gradually into a humid forest. After the first 200m of this train there is a shallow creek that a hiker needs to wade through in order to continue. After this the trail is easy and steady. One can turn back at any point during this trail, just be prepared to get wet.

Dance classes are a fun way to learn a bit of Spanish culture and brush up on existing language skills. The classes are conducted in Spanish, forcing the participants to converse in Spanish. It's fun and a great way to not only converse in the language but also to meet some of the locals.

The culture scene features various festivals which deserve mention. The most famous is most probably the carnival that takes place for four days leading up to Ash Wednesday in February. It features loads of traditional parades, music, dancing and of course a lot of drinking. It is a cultural event not to be missed.

White water rafting is a sport that the adrenaline junkies can indulge in. There are various companies who operate in different locations in the area. There are day trips for those trying it for the first time and there are longer trips for extreme enthusiasts. The longer trips usually last between 3 and 7 days. They offer an extended route with accommodation and meals being supplied along the way.
