Collecting Many Different State Souvenirs

Collecting Many Different State Souvenirs

by Sonya Riley

One of the many enjoyable things about traveling is collecting little tokens to commemorate visiting a particular location. A lot of people like to gather these types of items for themselves as well as for friends and family. There is such a variety of state souvenirs available throughout the country, that it should be no problem finding something to suit each person's tastes.

There are many reasons why an individual may want to purchase something that reminds them of a place that they have visited. Perhaps it is to keep a little piece of their experience visible or maybe to share it with someone else. People also tend to have personal preferences as to the kind of things they like to buy as reminders of their travels.

One hobby a lot of people have is gathering like items from their various places of travel. Some of the top choices include, but are by no means limited to, magnets, decorative plates, silver tea spoons and shot glasses. Trying to create a complete collection of tokens from each of the 50 states is sometimes viewed as a goal individuals will work hard to achieve.

Many times, a person will select their souvenir based on whether or not they will find some later use for it. Buying a towel purchased at a South Carolina beach is most definitely going to prove useful anywhere and anytime the individual may need to dry themselves off. Other popular choices of this type are hats, shirts, water bottles, bags and insulated totes.

For those who just like to pick up a little keepsake that is both small and useful for themselves or for someone else, there are an incredible amount of options. A few of the more common choices are key chains, pencils, coffee mugs or theme printed notepads. These items are usually of low enough cost that the traveler can afford to grab something for everyone on their gift list.

People who like quirkier, more unique tokens can find many creative offerings that will be easily recognizable as being from the state in which they are being purchased. Some examples of this would be like buying a table top lighthouse in Maine, a skier in a snow globe in Colorado or maybe a tiny volcano paperweight from Hawaii. Jewelry boxes, shell sculptures, and bobble head dolls in representative costumes are just a few more interesting possibilities one may find.

Because they are available in so many locations, finding something to serve as a keepsake should be no problem. Places like gift shops, retail outlets, hotel lobbies and kiosks set up in malls or near popular attractions, all sell such things. Even gas stations and convenience stores usually have a selection of pins, pencils, travel cups and postcards.
