Anyone looking for the perfect getaway should think about Watch Hill Beach RI. This wonderful area has so much to offer visitors of all ages. From young families looking for a beach vacation to energetic teenagers who need lots of activities, this is a paradise. There are miles of sandy beaches, warm ocean waters, plus hikes and cycling trails galore.

The beaches are located at the very end of an awe inspiring peninsula. The views out over Block Island Sound are inspiring to artists and visitors alike. This south west corner of Washington County Rhode Island is also conveniently close to other big attractions like Mystic Seaport. Many visitors arrive each year from Boston, which is only around eighty miles to the north.

One of the best places to visit is the local lighthouse. Lighthouses are so symbolic of the region and really create that nautical feeling. Many people like to take home a photograph or painting of the lighthouse to remind them of their visit. It makes a beautiful walk on a summer day, or even in the crisp days of the fall. Scheduling a tour of the building is also a great addition to the trip.

The ocean waters offer excellent swimming, although safety should always be a concern. Only strong swimmers should venture out beyond the shallows. The area really is a sailors delight with marine craft of all kinds readily available. Many people want to take a boat trip during their stay. There are fun daytime outings to watch for whales and other marine life. Romantic young couples can also enjoy an evening sail to watch the moon come up over the water.

Many of the hotels are family run. They know what their guests want and need. Service is friendly and any extra needs such as special diets and cribs are not a problem. With so much to do this is the perfect place to get away for a few days. New York City is only about two and a half hours away, putting it within easy distance of a long weekend get away. During the peak summer months it is vital to book early as many places are full months in advance. It is very disappointing to drive all the way only to find there are no rooms available.

The area around Watch Hill Beach was first developed as a resort in the early twentieth century. People from Boston and New York were looking for places to go to beat the summer heat and humidity. At this time many grand hotels and friendly guest houses were build. Many of them remain in business today, some are even run by the original families. Guests are sure of a warm welcome and every step is taken to ensure that their stay is perfect.

Those who enjoy a quieter pace will find lots to do. There are some excellent museums in the area that teach visitors about the lives of local fishermen. The area has a rich maritime history and there is still much evidence of that today. Boats are everywhere, ranging from working fishing boats to recreational sail boats.
