How To Experience The Country Like A King With Egypt Nile Cruises

by William Fuller

If you're an experienced traveler, but you've never brought a visit to Egypt, you haven't experienced true fascination yet. Embarking on one of the close to 400 available Egypt Nile cruises affords you an opportunity to live like a king or a queen for a few days. To return to a lifestyle you thought didn't exist any more and to experience the a culture that is today as fascinating as it was 2000 years ago.

Although there are shorter trips starting at Luxor, most start from Cairo. This sprawling mega-city with its magical mix of ancient and modern is an adventure to explore by itself. In the Khan el Khalili market you can easily forget that you're in the 21st century as you wander among water pipes, copper vases and beautiful Egyptian handcrafts. A visit to the Egyptian Museum will afford you the chance to view a real mummy in its original state. And of course no visit to Egypt will be complete without a trip to the Pyramids on the outskirts of Cairo.

Once you're on the boat, you will be pampered in luxury. There will be a large variety of food available during mealtimes, including Egyptian delicacies and Western dishes. You will spend your nights watching belly dancing shows or attending the Captain's ball. And afterwards you can stand on deck and watch the landscape slid quietly by in the dark.

Most tours stop at the temples of Luxor, Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo. These magnificent reminders of kingdoms long gone are always fascinating to visit. After that you will most likely proceed to Aswan, where a side trip to the massive Aswan dam is a possibility.

There are a huge selection of cruises available - enough to suit every taste and pocket. If you have a limited budget or not a lot of time, you have the choice of going on a three day cruise from Luxor to Aswan. The most expensive, but also the most enjoyable, is a cruise from Cairo right down to Aswan. You can return with the cruise boat, or alternatively fly back or take a sleeper train.

Dressing up on these Egypt Nile cruises is not really the norm - except maybe for the Captain's ball. Otherwise jeans and a t-shirt are perfectly adequate. The important thing here is to have fun and to return to wherever you came from with new vigor and energy.
