Tips For Performing A Good Relocation

Tips For Performing A Good Relocation

by Sharonne Penickata

Most people cringe when they think about moving. They think of endlessly looking through box after box for things they want. There's the packing, the boxes, the tape, the TASK. But it doesn't have to be such a crazy time. You can get organized to make your move go pretty smoothly. Try these organizational tips for a smoother move.

Do a list

Actually, you are likely to make several lists. Make a list of items you are packing for each and every room in the house. Label this list as Living Room, Bath Room, Susie's Room, etc. List the items you're moving, leaving room at the very top for priority items (we'll get to this later). Star stuff that are a necessity for your first night.

Get plenty of Supplies

You will need boxes, tape, packing material, labels and pens. Using different colored highlighters or different colored stickers is another good idea. But have more than you imagine you are likely to need, cause you are going to need a lot more than you think. Most movers will require your unused boxes, so do not be shy. The worst thing you want is to be scrambling around on moving day searching for packing material or tape, or dumpster diving for boxes.

Make Labels (plenty of them) And Use Them

Get labels for each room in the home and print out countless them. You will put a label on either side with the box, upper right corner or upper left corner, it does not matter. The point is to save yourself time rotating boxes looking for the label that informs you where each goes. Assign one to each and every room and slap a coloured sticker to use a highlighter on the label. Like that, you have a quick visual as well.

Prioritize your Packaging

Bear in mind those items you noted on your own list as priority? Well, you need to pack them last in order that they will be loaded about the truck last and unloaded first. Prior to starting packing, grab a suitcase or even a couple of boxes and put a couple of changes of garments, toiletries, towels, mouthwash, sheets, blankets and other items you will need to have available that first day in your home. Oh, and don't forget your toothbrush, or perhaps your coffee pot, coffee, sugar and creamer. Obviously, different families and folks could have different needs, just make sure you've got your survival kit packed and guarded from overzealous movers who may toss it about the truck unsure what it is. Maybe put it within your car or somewhere handy.

Make your New Place Unpacking Favorable

At the new place, label each room using the same system you labeled your boxes. Like that, anyone helping looks about the box and sees Susie's Room then starts to see the coordinating label on the door of Susie's new room. Just write labels on sheets of paper and tape these to the doorway facing of every room. In this way, the boxes find the way to each room where they belong as well as your move and future unpacking goes way smoother.
