Finest Grand Canyon National Park Plane Excursions For Spring Break Vacation

Finest Grand Canyon National Park Plane Excursions For Spring Break Vacation

by Ione Mahler

Spring Break will soon be here, so it's time to plan a fun way to celebrate. For instance, nothing is more exciting than taking a trip to the Grand Canyon. You can catch an airplane tour out of Vegas every day of the Spring Break Season. Here's a quick look at what kind of tours are available.

Tours Departing from Las Vegas

All flights from Vegas go over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam on the way to the Canyon. Pick from trips that soar over the National Park or ones that land on top of the rim. All-air tours are the most affordable, but, personally, I prefer the landing tours because you get a much more intense Canyon experience.

There's a landing tour where you can purchase an additional ticket for a helicopter ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. This is my personal favourite, and one of the most popular tours at the Grand Canyon. At the bottom you can enjoy a short picnic, and you could even include a boat ride on the beautiful Colorado River.

Skywalk at the West Rim

Another attraction at the West Rim is the Skywalk. This is an impressive glass platform that extends out from the Canyon's edge. It will allow you to stand 4000ft above the Canyon, looking straight down and all around at the sights. There are no cameras allowed on the platform, for safety reasons, but there are professional photographers on site who can capture your moment forever.

South Rim Airplane Tours

There are also airplane tours that fly to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Flying directly to Tusayan in Arizona. These tours take an epic 50 minute route over the National Park, covering the South Rim, North Rim, and eastern boundary. You can't land inside the Canyon at the South Rim, but there are other ground options.

One of these, is a 2.5 hour bus tour around the local sights. If you crave even more adventure, there's also a 4x4 Jeep ride that takes you to locations that aren't easily accessible from a touring bus.

Why Take an Airplane Tour?

Airplanes are the prime choice for budget conscious travelers, because they're more affordable than helicopters. Another advantage of taking an airplane tour is that you can travel in a large group. Airplane tours can seat 19 passengers, and there is commentary available for all passengers, in up to 10 different languages. Request any special commentary before your flight, to make sure that it is available on the day.

Grand Canyon airplanes have oversized viewing windows, and wings are mounted above the windows, so you will always have a clear view of what's outside.

Dress For The Weather Conditions

The West Rim is close to Las Vegas, and the weather mirrors what's happening in the city. This makes it easy to prepare for your day. If you're travelling to the South Rim, and you will be departing the Airplane, make sure that you bring a warm sweater, with some lighter clothing on underneath. It can get cool at the South Rim, and you will want to be comfortable if you're taking a bus or Jeep tour.

In Sum

Final piece of advice: Always book your plane tour in advance. The Spring Break vacation is a very popular one at the National Park, so you'll need to get that reservation in at least a week before you hit the road. And make sure you do it online - that's where the best prices on the best trips are.

You'll find lots of packages to suit your needs and budget. If you are starting from Vegas, you can visit both rims. If you are doing this from Tusayan, AZ, South Rim, you're go to flight is the 50-minute trip that lets you see up to 75 percent of the Park. So I hope you go for it as these are flights you'll remember for a lifetime.
