You Will Love Your Shaver Lake Camping Experience

You Will Love Your Shaver Lake Camping Experience

by Beryl Dalton

There are many people that simply can't wait for their vacation to start so that they can get out into nature. The Shaver Lake camping grounds in Fresno County in California is a place that offers nature in abundance. It is a manmade lake and has a melancholy logging theme as the land was considerably logged while been constructed.

It is an artificial reservoir that is used to store water situated in the National forest of Fresno County. There are many smaller streams that flow into the lake and it also gets its supply from underground tunnels. It was completed in 1927 and was built in fifteen meter blocks with copper sheeting to help keep it leak free. A small amount of water is fed off into Stevenson Creek for wildlife and the rest is diverted to Big Creek where it will help to power hydroelectric plants.

Unlike many other camping places they do offer camp sites with electricity as well as internet and cable television. There is a picnic area but at the moment is in the process of getting revamped so will remain closed until construction ends. There is however other sites that one can stop at along Dinkey Creek that are just as quiet and restful.

For those that prefer not to camp but to rent houses there are many around that will ensure comfort and privacy. The Natal Granite Retreat is a beautiful five bedroom and five bathroom house that can sleep up to twenty people at a time. It is about four thousand square feet with a spacious kitchen and pool table. It is about a forty five minute drive from the town where there are many restaurants and gift shops to browse in.

Twenty more minutes further up the road one will find the China Perak Ski Resort which is a popular place during the colder months. The mountain is about eight thousand and seven hundred feet high and offers a freestyle terrain park. This is an excellent place for beginners both skiing and snowboarders as they offer a moving carpet.

The Pacific Crest hiking trail is truly breathtaking. It is not for the unfit as it is about four thousand kilometers long over rocky terrain. Many even use this trail for horse riding. The route goes through seven national parks as well as twenty five national forests which leave many awestruck at its beauty. There is also a bicycle route that runs parallel to the hiking trail and these come together about twenty seven times along the route.

Many prefer to stay in cabins instead of camping and there are a variety of different places where one can spend a few days. There are hotels as well as log cabins to choose from. There are a few that are only five minutes drive from the lake. Many can sleep multiple guests at a time.

During the rainy season, camping can be a problem as the reservoir fills and the shore has limited space to set up on. There is a little shop that offers ice, drinks, fuel as well as fishing equipment. This is an experience that will keep one coming back as often as possible, to relive the moments of fun and being one with the wild time and again.
