What Uses A Fiberglass Extension Ladder Can Be Put To

by Linda Cantrell

All of the building trades as well as service companies all over the country need the help that is offered by a ladder. Many will use a simple A frame, however, necessity requires the use of an extension ladder in a large percentage of tasks. There are many of these of all sizes and lengths, however, the most popular type is the fiberglass extension ladder.

Wood is one of the many materials that is used for an extension ladder. These are the heaviest and they are also prone to molds and rot. They must be handled and stored carefully and fiberglass ones are a better fit in most applications because of their strength and other important reasons.

These extension ladders are a bit more flexible than an A frame. An A frame ladder can be used in the middle of the room and does not need anything to lean against as it is self supporting. What you lose is the ability to have a safe place to work when the level is taller than about 10 or 12 feet. They do have the advantage of being able to be moved easily as long as you have one or two helpers.

One of the things to consider, when thinking about what ladders to use, is the regulations on usability of A frames. The top two steps are not to be used and that restricts the use of the entire length. Extension ladders are the better equipment and more stable to allow the use of all rungs on the entire length.

Every type and model of extendable ladders are used in all of the trades. These can be used for reaching the roof, up the sides of houses and in all construction sites regardless of the facility that is being built. They are also used as maintenance equipment when changing light bulbs, repairing damage on walls and ceilings and installing new fixtures.

A very popular feature or characteristic of a fiberglass unit, extension or otherwise, is its ability to resist the transmission of electricity. This is important when electricians are working their craft. This is also something that other trades, working with or around electrical connections and wires values. Metal ladders and wet wood ones will conduct electricity and that is a dangerous situation to put yourself in.

All of the material that goes into the formulation of fiberglass material is compounded in a factory. It is then extruded into the shapes that are needed to create the item. It is the insulating characteristics that is melded into these extending ladders that make them valuable. The climber should still be careful and not expose themselves to live wires unless they know what they are doing.

Extension ladders, whether wood, fiberglass or aluminum are easy to use. On the back of this piece of equipment is a system of tracks that hold the extra sections in line. The rope that is used to pull that section up is run through pulleys. This makes is easy to bring that extra section up, clamp it onto one of the rungs with an arm that is spring loaded and stays there for your extra height and safety.
