Experience Paradise With San Pedro Belize Rentals

Experience Paradise With San Pedro Belize Rentals

by Imelda Reid

Way back in the 1980s, Madonna sang about a beautiful island with a tropical island breeze. The island she sang about isn't fictional, though. It really does exist and consistently appears on lists of the world's most idyllic destinations. If you want to enjoy a piece of this paradise too, simply book one of the San Pedro Belize rentals available and get ready for an unforgettable Caribbean break.

San Pedro is the largest town on Ambergris Caye, just off the coast of northern Belize. It started life as a fishing village but now the town's main source of income is tourism. This means that there is an excellent tourist infrastructure with plenty of accommodation options but luckily the town hasn't lost its laid-back Caribbean character.

The main reason for many people to come to Ambergris Caye is for the excellent diving here. There are many dive shops in town and you'll even be able to get your open-water certification here. The Hol Chan Marine Reserve is located just a couple of miles to the south and here you can swim with stingrays and nurse sharks. There are some prime snorkeling spots as well, for instance on the reef facing town.

There are other ways to enjoy the crystal-clear water too. Sailing, windsurfing and kite-surfing are some of the popular water-sports to try. You may also charter a boat and go fishing. The beaches aren't very wide but there are plenty of piers and walkways where you might find a spot or soaking up the sun.

When you need a bit of a change, there are fascinating day trips to other destinations in the area. For example, go enjoy the lobster of neighboring Caye Caulkner or visit the famous Blue Hole. Another option is to head to the mainland or a few days to visit some of the wildlife sanctuaries and Mayan ruins.

Even though San Pedro is small, it has all the amenities a visitor may want. There's a huge selection of restaurants and you'll also find plenty of supermarkets and shops where you can stock up on provisions if you'd rather self-cater. The nightlife is bustling pretty much every night of the week and beachside bars are just the place to go to quench your thirst with a rum-based cocktail.

High season is between January and March, when the humidity drops to more comfortable levels. However, any time of year is a great time to visit. Even in rainy season you're likely to experience sunny mornings with showers mainly in the afternoon. Fly in to Belize City and then hop on a light aircraft or take the boat. There are boat connections to several other destinations in Belize too.

The most widely spoken language on Ambergris Caye is English. You'll also hear Spanish and Kriol. Accommodation is plentiful and there are options for different budgets. It's good to book well in advance, though, to ensure you get the specific slice of heaven that you want.
