What Makes Up A Female Midlife Crisis

What Makes Up A Female Midlife Crisis

by Rosella Campbell

Life is a cycle made up of many seasons and the transition from one season to another may sometimes cause some worries to an individual. Often it is always some minor disruptions in the lifestyle of someone but for some people it persists and becomes a crisis. Female midlife crisis occurs between the ages of late thirties and forties. In the past, the roles of women were well defined and midlife crisis was unheard of.

In the 20th century, lifecycles of women were prolonged incredibly and numerous of them started living for up to 7 or 8 decades. When they get to their mid-ages of about forty and they have completed the role of child bearing, the remaining part of their lives can start feeling void. After their kids have gained independence they start contemplating about their value.

Most women will start feeling an inexplicable feeling of loneliness that overcomes them like they have no sense of identity. They start being conscious of their gradually fading energy and beauty and they may start falling into depression. This feeling of loneliness will even be more evident if they have a case of marital dissatisfaction.

Whether they are single, married or widowed, majority of women usually go through this crisis at a point in their lives. For instance, a spinster who has been concentrating on her career most of her life may suddenly decide that she cannot live alone anymore. She may picture herself being old alone and suddenly puts up an advert on the newspaper looking for a spouse.

Another example is a widow who may suddenly decide to change the way she looks. She may consult a stylist have her wrinkles ironed out, start using heavy make-up or even dress like a teenager. People can start gossiping about her behaviors but when they are going through this phase, all they think about is their behavior.

Every woman must be prepared for this phase. It is a time to take stock and examine their on lifestyle. They need to first identify all the factors that may lead to them having a midlife crisis and make sure they address them individually. If it is the fear of aging, they should try accepting that they are growing old and that age is a good opportunity just like being in their youth.

Women who have spent most of their lives taking care of their children may feel useless when the time comes that their children do not need them anymore. Midlife is also a time when they become vulnerable to many diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension and others. There is need for them to start living a healthy life when they are at this point in their lives. All these factors have an effect on their confidence and it is what results in the altered behaviors.

Waiting and good planning for this period is a perfect way of ensuring the evolution will not be nerve-wracking. They must imagine this is a period of discovery and try to get through this evolution with no difficulties. If controlled well, the period will be adaptable and fun.
