These items also go by different names such as packsacks, rucksacks, knapsacks, or simply pack.

These products are liked for carrying heavy items as compared to handbags since hands tire over time. They integrate a number of features, which make them comfortable and very suitable for carrying for a long period. The first characteristic is that they have a minimum of two straps or more handles. Handles are for carrying the bag in hands.

The straps and/or handles are padded heavily to aid ease pressure while carrying the bag. The padding is made up of sponge that is woven within a piece of material to prevent it from being spoilt. Straps have additional straps, which extend horizontally and interconnect with each other. With horizontal belts locked well, the packsack remains steady on the body all the time.

The bags also keep close contact with the bodies of the carriers making them comfortable and even keep the bodies warm. Padded hip straps bear most of the weight abandoning shoulder belts to ensure stability of the load. This reduces possibilities of picking up injuries and/or getting tired fast.

These sacks have a big capacity and have several pockets for carrying different items. There are usually two main pockets that are properly padded on the sides to offer shock absorption capability if the bag falls down accidentally. These pockets may be used to keep delicate equipment such as cameras, TFT screens, laptops, keyboards, microscopes, and phones among several others. The pockets on the sides are usually bottle-shaped for keeping water bottles. They even contain straps for securing bottles in place.

Backpacks are made from a variety of materials depending on the purpose they are supposed to serve. Some of the major materials used include leather, cotton, polyester, PVC, nylon, and canvas among others. The outer cover is mostly made in a way as to prevent water infiltration. This makes the bags waterproof and suitable for use even in rainy weather conditions. Some have reflective materials sewn on the outer side to make them visible at nighttime.
